Three, portrayed by Morgan Gao, was a minor antagonist in the fourth season of Stranger Things. He was one of the known test subjects at Hawkins Lab; he was one of Two's friends, alongside Four and Five, who ganged up on Eleven and hurt her with their powers as punishment for "shaming" Two during a training exercise with Papa. He was among those killed by One on September 8, 1979.

History

Background

Hoping to recreate One’s powers in other individuals, Dr. Martin Brenner, a researcher for the controversial government program "MKUltra", took what he had learned from One and adjusted his experimentations.

For some time, Brenner successfully imbued various unborn children - children belonging to pregnant MKUltra test subjects - with versions of One’s powers. “Three” was the second oldest of these children; he and all the others were abducted by Brenner at birth and brought to Hawkins National Laboratory. Three and the other subjects were told that One did not exist where they did not realize that One was working as one of the orderlies that attended to the lab.

1979

On September 4, 1979, Brenner took the children into the main training room, where, one-by-one, they would attempt to psychically manipulate a series of lightbulbs. Three watched Eleven struggle with this task, leading Two to mock and belittle her. Despite this, Eleven briefly powered one of the bulbs.

Personality

Like his predecessor, Two, Three was a resentful individual with a cruel streak. Three was a loyal companion to Two and did not possess the thought of trying to upstage him in the terms of the strength of their powers. Three was also willing to harm the younger test subjects, taking advantage at any moment to do so, such as when the security cameras in the Rainbow Room were off. Due to his conditions growing up in Hawkins Lab and being raised by Martin Brenner, Three was completely heartless, but was capable of feeling afraid as he watched Brenner electrocute Two as punishment for attacking Eleven.
