January
- January 8: The first issue of Stranger Things: Into the Fire was released.[1]
- January 21: The graphic novel Stranger Things: Zombie Boys was released.[2]
January–February
- Unknown date(s): Production on the fourth season began in Lithuania before continuing in Georgia.[3][4]
February
- February 12: The second issue of Stranger Things: Into the Fire was released.[5]
- February 14: The first teaser trailer for the fourth season, "From Russia with love...", was released. The teaser also confirmed that production on the season was underway.[6][7]
March
- March 3: Brett Gelman (Murray Bauman) was promoted from recurring cast member to series regular.[8]
- March 16: Filming was halted due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, along with other Netflix productions.[9]
- March 25: The third issue of Stranger Things: Into the Fire was released.[10]
July
- July 8: The fourth and final issue of Stranger Things: Into the Fire was released.[11]
- July 28: The graphic novel version of Stranger Things: Into the Fire was released.[12]
- July 29: The one-shot comic Stranger Things: FCBD 2020 was released as part of Free Comic Book Day 2020.[13]

- September 28: Filming for the fourth season resumed after six months of delays.[15]

- Stranger Things: The Drive-Into Experience, an interactive theatrical adventure based on season 3, launched in Los Angeles.[19]

- November 4: The first issue of Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons was released.[20]
- November 6: Stranger Things Day was observed across the franchise's official social media accounts.[21]
- November 20: Three new series regulars were announced: Eduardo Franco as Argyle, Joseph Quinn as Eddie Munson, and Jamie Campbell Bower as Peter Ballard. Five new recurring cast members were also announced: Tom Wlaschiha as Dmitri, Sherman Augustus as Lt. Colonel Sullivan, Mason Dye as Jason Carver, Nikolai Djuricko as Yuri, and Robert Englund as Victor Creel.[22]
