The following Stranger Things-related events occurred in 2015:
March
- Unknown date(s): The Duffer Brothers pitched their series Montauk to Netflix, which quickly agreed to greenlight the series.[1]
April
- April 21: The first season of Montauk was announced by Netflix for a planned 2016 release.[2]
- Unknown date(s): Around April, the Duffer Brothers contacted Survive to ask whether they would be interested in scoring the first season. Band members Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein agreed to join the project.[3]
June
- Unknown date: The official Stranger Things writers' room Twitter account, @strangerwriters, was created by Caitlin Schneiderhan.[4]
- June 15: The casting of Winona Ryder as Joyce and David Harbour as the chief of police was announced. By that point, the series had undergone a creative evolution and was no longer titled Montauk.[5]
August
- August 20: Additional casting was announced: Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Millie Bobby Brown as a mysterious young girl, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, Noah Schnapp as Will, Natalia Dyer as Nancy, and Charlie Heaton as Jonathan. It was also announced that the series had been retitled Stranger Things.[6]
September
- September 1: Cara Buono was announced as Karen.[7]
- September 25: Filming began on the first season in Atlanta, Georgia. [citation needed]

- October 27: Matthew Modine was announced as Dr. Martin Brenner.[8]
