"Weathertop" is a hill in Hawkins, Indiana and the highest point in Hawkins. It was named after Weathertop from J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings by the Party. In 1985, it was temporarily the mounting point of the ham radio Cerebro created by Dustin Henderson and Suzie Bingham.
History
Background
At some point, the Party named this hill in Hawkins, Indiana Weathertop after the hill from J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series.

After returning from Camp Know Where, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Max Mayfield, Will Byers, Mike Wheeler and Eleven brought Dustin and his girlfriend Suzie Bingham's invention Cerebro, a ham radio for communicating with Suzie, to the top of Weathertop. Dustin explained that Cerebro must be placed on a point of high altitude to function properly. Mike and Eleven left midway up the hill. After expressing disgust at Mike and Eleven making out, the rest of the Party continued up Weathertop. After Dustin set up Cerebro, he tried for a long time to communicate with Suzie, to no avail. Afterwards, the Party left him on Weathertop. Moments after they left, Cerebro picked up a secret Soviet transmission.
Later, Dustin and his friends Steve Harrington, Robin Buckley and Erica Sinclair came back to Weathertop to try to communicate with Suzie once more, to get the number of Planck's Constant. They got into a car called TODFTHR from Starcourt Mall and drove it up Weathertop until about midway. They then ran up to the top of the hill. After Steve and Robin left with the TODFTHR to rescue Nancy Wheeler, Jonathan Byers, Will and Lucas from the mall, Dustin and Erica managed to finally get hold of Suzie. After Dustin and Suzie sang Limahl's Never Ending Story, much to Dustin's friends' disapproval, Suzie gave up the number of Planck's Constant. Dustin and Erica also communicated with Murray Bauman and their friends through Cerebro while they carried out their plan.
1985-1986
At some point after the events of July 1985, Cerebro was dismounted from Weathertop and taken to the Henderson residence.
Description
Although Weathertop is a hill with an average height, it is the point with the highest altitude in Hawkins. It depicted as considerably steep, as the TODFTHR could not drive all the way to the top. Weathertop was also covered with flowers and grasses, including purple and yellow flowers. The flowers grew in the higher areas of the hill, and the lower areas were mostly just grass. There were also some low wooden fences and paths.
Trivia
- A similar looking hill in Hawkins is shown wilting away due to the Upside Down's invasion in "The Piggyback". This may be intended to be Weathertop, though this is not confirmed.
